Are Tiger Sharks Dangerous Plus, More Tiger Shark Facts

Shark attacks arent as common as the news media would have you believe, and fear of sharks is largely unwarranted. The tiger shark, however, is one of the few sharks known to attack swimmers and surfers unprovoked. Its sometimes called the man-eater shark, for good reason. Are Tiger Sharks Dangerous? The tiger shark is one of the shark species most likely to attack a human unprovoked, and is considered one of the most dangerous sharks in the world for that reason. Tiger sharks are one of the Big Three aggressive shark species, along with great white sharks and bull sharks. Of 111 reported tiger shark attacks, 31 were fatal. The great white shark is the only species that attacks and kills more people than the tiger shark. Why are tiger sharks so dangerous? Tiger sharks inhabit waters where humans swim, so the chances of an encounter are greater than with deep-water shark species.Tiger sharks are big and strong, and can easily overpower a person in the water.Tiger sharks have teeth designed for shearing their food, so the damage they inflict is devastating. What Do Tiger Sharks Look Like? The tiger shark is named for the dark, vertical stripes on either side of its body, which are reminiscent of a tigers markings. These stripes actually fade as the tiger shark ages, so they cant be used as an identifying feature of every individual. Young tiger sharks have dark blotches or spots, which eventually merge into stripes. For this reason, the species is sometimes known as the leopard shark or the spotted shark. The tiger shark has a stout head and body, although narrower at the tail end. The snout is blunt and somewhat rounded. Tiger sharks are among the largest species of sharks, both in length and weight. Females are larger than males at maturity. Tiger sharks average 10 to 14 feet in length, but the largest individuals may be as long as 18 feet and weigh over 1,400 pounds.  Theyre generally solitary, but sometimes congregate where food sources are plentiful. How Is the Tiger Shark Classified? Tiger sharks belong to the family of requiem sharks; sharks that migrate and bear live young. There are about 60 species included in this group, among them the blacktip reef shark, the Caribbean reef shark, and the bull shark. Tiger sharks are the only extant species of the genus Galeocerdo. Tiger sharks are classified as follows: Tiger Shark Fast Facts Kingdom: Animalia (animals)Phylum: Chordata (organisms with a dorsal nerve cord)Class: Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish)Order: Carcharhiniformes (ground sharks)Family: Carcharhinidae (requiem sharks)Genus: GaleocerdoSpecies: Galeocerdo cuvier The Tiger Shark Life Cycle Tiger sharks mate, with the male inserting a clasper into the female to release sperm and fertilize her eggs. The gestation period for tiger sharks is believed to range from 13 to 16 months, and a female can produce a litter every two years or so. Tiger sharks give birth to live young, and have an average litter size of 30 to 35 shark pups. Newborn tiger sharks are highly vulnerable to predation, including by other tiger sharks. Tiger sharks are ovoviviparous, meaning their embryos develop inside eggs within the mother sharks body, the egg hatches, and then the mother gives birth to live young. Unlike in viviparous organisms, tiger sharks dont have a placental connection to nourish their developing young. While carried within the mother, the egg yolk nourishes the immature tiger shark. Where Do Tiger Sharks Live? Tiger sharks inhabit coastal waters, and seem to prefer areas that are murky and shallow, like bays and estuaries. During the day, they usually stay in deeper waters. At night, they can be found hunting near reefs and in shallows. Tiger sharks have been confirmed at a depth of up to 350 meters, but generally arent considered a deep water species. Tiger sharks live throughout the world, in both tropical and warm temperate seas. In the eastern Pacific, they may be encountered from the southern California coast to Peru. Their range in the western Atlantic Ocean begins near Uruguay and extends north to Cape Cod. Tiger sharks are also known to inhabit waters around New Zealand, Africa, the Galapagos Islands, and other areas of the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea. A few individuals were even confirmed near Iceland and the U.K. What Do Tiger Sharks Eat? The short answer is whatever they want. Tiger sharks are solitary, nocturnal hunters, and they dont have a preference for any particular prey. Theyll eat just about anything they encounter, including fish, crustaceans, birds, dolphins, rays, and even other sharks. Tiger sharks also have a tendency to consume garbage floating in the bays and inlets, sometimes leading to their demise. Tiger sharks also scavenge for carrion, and human remains have been found in their stomach contents. Are Tiger Sharks Endangered? Humans pose a far greater threat to sharks than sharks do to humans. Almost a third of the worlds sharks and rays are endangered and at risk of extinction, due mainly to human activities and climate change. Sharks are apex predators―top-of-the-food-chain consumers―and their decline can tilt the balance of organisms in marine ecosystems. Tiger sharks are not endangered at this time, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), although they are identified as a species near threatened. Tiger sharks are frequent victims of bycatch, meaning theyre killed unintentionally by fishing practices intended to harvest other species. Theyre also fished commercially and recreationally in some parts of their range. Although finning tiger sharks is prohibited, its likely a number of tiger sharks still die from illegal fin harvesting. In Australia, tiger sharks are baited and culled near swimming areas where shark attacks are a concern. Resources and Further Reading Ferreira, L. Analysis Of Peter Charles Hoffer s For Ourselves And Our...

In Peter Charles Hoffer’s For Ourselves and Our Posterity, he talks about how the preamble to the constitution was such a transcendent idea. Hoffer talks about how the way the preamble was written it has been able to adjust and adapt to the needs of the nation over time. In analyzing this novel Hoffer makes many interesting and compelling arguments in saying that the preamble has been one of the most influential pieces of work in helping develop this country. After reading this book and looking at the civil war, the presidency of FDR, and the presidencies of JFK and Lyndon B. Johnson. I have found that I agree with Hoffer’s opinion. President Abraham Lincoln took the phrases â€Å"to form a more perfect union† and â€Å"to promote the general welfare â€Å" from the preamble to heart. This is why when the South seceded from the union Lincoln went to war. The south seceding meant that the United State of America was becoming a weaker and a worse union and Lincol n could not allow this to happen. Lincoln also realized that the length and intensity of the war was destroying the people of the union and knew that when this war was over he needed to ensure that it would never happen again, and thus issued the emancipation proclamation. In issuing this proclamation Lincoln ensured that the issue of slavery would no longer be able to divide the country and also took the first step toward promoting the welfare of all the people, regardless of race. The sender encodes the message and the receiver decodes it. The sender selects the channel of communication through which they need to send the message. The channel through which the sender sends the message can be verbal, non-verbal, written or through visualization in the forms of graphs and charts. The communication can be transmitted in an organization through various channels like face-to face conversations, telephone calls, text messages, Television etc[8]. Figure2 showing Types of Communication Source[9] The banking and the insurance sectors similarly uses many communication channels to make the communication more effective. However in this study we analyzed the two communication source one from the television advertisement and another from the telephone calls. Both the communication categorizes in verbal communication. The audience gets influenced for the using of the services through the television advertisement. The telephone calls are the one-to-one conversation where the senders are unable to see receiver and vice versa[15]. Though, the customers get information through phone but it generally lacks the influencing power. The customers unable to trust the executives and so do not get convinced over phone. Advertising enables to create the brand for the specific audience. People get aware about the brand as it creates an impression. The consumer feels connected with the advertisement on the television and influence in the purchasing behavior. It initiates to build a loyalty towards the brand if the advertisement comes repeatedly on the television[16]. However, the approach of the representatives through telephone does not able to create the brand value for the organization. They became aware about the brand through phone but, it does not influence much for the purchasing power of the customers. The content of the advertisement is authentic and people trust the advertisement. While, the telephone calls always has the tendency of scam or fraud. It enables the customers not to trust the brand quickly. The attempt of both the communication has the same aim to create consciousness of the brand among the customers. However the approach is different has customers takes the advertisement more positive way as it does not involves any risk of fraud or scam[17]. Reasons for effective communication Television acts as an important medium to display a message. The advertising is the best way to convey the message for the brand. Reason for ineffectiveness of the communication Telephone communication is one of the important modes for the verbal communication. The use of communication through telephone calls could initiate the scam or fraud incidents. The fraud or the scam individuals or teams often call to take the details about the account of the customers[19]. The customers sometimes feels irritated because of the repeated call from the banking or insurance company. Conversation on telephone does not create the provision of face to face conversation which, in return could influence the clients in effective way. The telephone call creates a barrier communication as it initiates the network problem. Network problem enables the clients not to hear the voice clearly. The customer gets irritated because of it. The communication sometimes creates communication gap between the sender and the receiver of the message. William Seward, John Calhoun, and Daniel Webster free essay sample

All three of them established themselves for nationalist causes, but they had different views on slavery. Seward opposed slavery, while Calhoun was pro-slavery, while Webster took a safe ground by making compromises to both pro- and anti-slavery states. Seward rose to political prominence in New York in the sasss, serving in the state He was characterized as generous, spirited, convivial, and impulsive. The dominating issue of whether to allow the extension of slavery into the newly acquired western territories heartened to danger the Senate when Congress convened in December 1849. Seward rose on the Senate floor to deliver a speech that he called Freedom in the New Territories. The new senator spent several intense weeks on the preparation of his statement, realizing that it could be taken as the Norths answer to Calhoun. Seward acknowledged that the Constitutions framer had recognized the being of slavery and protected it where it existed, but the new territory was governed by a higher law than the Constitution a moral law established by the creator or god. He warned the South that slavery was doomed and that a rebellion from the Union would happen. The speech hastened the Whig partys division into propellers and antislavery perspectives and shrunk many of his natural allies. A decade later, in 1 860 and 1861, as southern states began to rebel, Seward became more passive in his attitude toward the South, seeking peaceful methods of resolving the inflict and avoiding war. A month after Henry Clays two-day speech on the Compromise of 1850, a mortally ill John C. Calhoun summoned the strength to write a reply, which his colleague James Mason read to the Senate on March 4. Calhoun asked the Senate to respect the Souths institutions and to protect its economic ways against northern efforts to limit slavery and promote industrial over agricultural interests. Calhoun had seen in his own State how the spread Of slavery into the back country improved morals by limiting the countryside of he wrong doing poor whites who had once terrorized the law abiding middle class.Calhoun believed that slavery instilled in the white who remained a code of honor that blunted the disruptive potential of private gain and fostered the civic-mindedness that lay near the core of the republican creed. From this standpoint, the expansion of slavery into the backcountry decreased the likelihood for social conflict and stopped the problems when money would become the only measure of self worth, like what happened in New England. Calhoun was convinced that slavery was the key to the success of American dreams. Webster viewed slavery as a matter of reality rather than moral principle. He argued that the issue of its existence in the territories had been settled long ago when Congress prohibited slavery in the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and split regions into slave and free in the 1 820 Missouri Compromise. He believed that slaveries existence could not be eradicated but also that it could not take place in the newly agriculturally barren lands of the southwest.Attacking radical abolitionists to improve his credibility with southerners, Webster asked northerners to respect slavery in the South and to help in the return of fugitive slaves to their owners. He joined Clay in warning that the union could never be solved peacefully. The Compromise of 1 850 was a series of five bills that were intended to keep off sectional strife. Its goal was to deal with the spread of slavery to territories in order to keep northern and southern interests individual. Throughout this battle, these three men had strong point of view that were expressed in their speeches. The bill did come to pass and slavery was abolished. Had the Compromise of 1 850 not passed, the nation would have erupted in civil war, and the likelihood of a Northern victory would have been much less. It is probable that would not have a united States of America today if it wasnt for the efforts of Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun, and Daniel Webster crafting and passing the Compromise Of 1850. As for William Seward, he made great points In his speech, but the United States as we know it, would not exist, had his words taken effect.
